About SIP Technology
Voice over Broadband (VoB) is the evolvement of technology based on the initial Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). While VOIP has revolutionized the way in which people can speak to each other, VoB has further been developed to create further cost savings for users. A simple description of the VoIP technology follows:
The IP (Internet Protocol) technology transmits voice information in digital form via the internet. Hence the term VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) refers to routing of voice packet over the internet. In comparison, traditional telephone system of PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) uses a different technology of dedicated circuit switched voice transmission lines.
The Session Initiated Protocol (SIP) is the technology behind VoIP where voice conversations are routed over the internet or any other available IP network. The main requirement for maximizing quality of this technology is internet access at broadband speed – hence also the name of VoB. SIP follows the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standard, is currently the most advanced technology in VoIP. This standard protocol for communication will facilitate reaching persons or services one is calling, regardless of global location – as long as there is broadband line. |
